Examining Tuskegee Pt. 2

The Tuskegee study was a very controversial topic. Was it ethical? What purpose did it serve? How could it go on for this long? My opinion on the study is yes, it should have been done but in a much different manner. If they needed to see the effects of Syphilis they could have done a study possibly in a lab or a different location that would benefit rather than destroy. Additionally, looking at the case from a societal standpoint it is extremely race influenced and caused unnecessary racial boxes that begun to group people together. Not only was it unethical medically, for more reasons than 1 but societally unethical due to race issues going rather than becoming extinct. I liked learning about this study although it was a very hard topic to listen about. The physicians in this study should have been monitored more close and should not have has as much power as they did. Also, the time frame in which this took place and the fact that it went up to almost 40 years is unrealistic and proves that there was less supervision than should be. The purpose that it served was more genocidal than actually serving the purpose to create beneficial information. Furthermore, when a cure was discovered the patients were not given this cure, and the trial was not ceased. That also highlighted the detrimental effects that it had not only on the patients but also on the race and society.
