1st Freund 300-word prompt
When Freund writes this excerpt, he calls race a "biological fiction" He means that essentially race is socially constructed and although you are born with an ethnic background, you are not born a "race". Race in general was used to generalize a group of people or to label people to order and distribute rights of power. But now, race is thought of in a biological standpoint. Haney-Lopez would agree that this is a socially constructed concept. He describes race being that of an "on going""contradictory" process. He describes to us that race used to be spoke of when discussing civilizations, but now race is just used to characterize people and put them into boxes essentially. He also says it is unfair to just categorize people into "race" categories because ones race isn't simply made up of just one gene cluster. I agree with what he is saying and also somewhat agree that race is socially constructed. I agree that there are many factors when pertaining to race and all that it entails.
